Not only did we help Montana Credit Union redesign their website — we helped them rebrand. Every decision was made with their target audience in mind: young families that are active on the weekends. So a designer and I collaborated on a site that showcases their outdoorsy persona — including the voice I crafted of a wise mentor that guides the user along the path of their financial journey. I also restructured their sitemap for optimal UX and injected some branding into the navigational links. The client loved the final result.

My mom grew up in Detroit — so I leapt at the opportunity to work with a credit union that serves primarily trade workers and their families there. The Local wanted a distinct blue collar voice that was at once edgy, humorous and helpful. They were pleased with the final result — the voice I crafted and their striking website that speaks directly to the worker making a good life for themselves and their family.

SECU had very specific brand guidelines for their new website — and it had to feel truly local. This was an interesting challenge, because I was not yet living in New Mexico and had only visited my parents there a handful of times. Armed with only these visits, my love for NM, and a little research, I delivered content that shined with the beauty, charm and flavor of this unique location (where I now live!). The project was completed in 2016, and the client still maintains a lot of the original I copy I wrote to this day.

The Preservation Project

Slackers was a stretch for me as it was an industry I hadn't worked in before (craft brewing), and I was assisting with both copy and website user experience. After delivering a UX assessment, the owners of Slackers made significant improvements to the usability (and readability) of their site. Next was refining their brand and writing copy that shined. I helped them identify their unique selling proposition (being a family-friendly brewery), and delivered copy that focused on the warmth and inclusivity they wanted to get across — including an About Us section that feels like them.

In my 8 years as a copywriter for Kasasa, I've had the opportunity to write marketing collateral of all kinds for a fast-growing financial services brand that's going for the big-time. Here I showcase a mailer for the "What's Kasasa?" campaign, as well as an email I wrote some years back. The copy seen here has been used and re-used on multiple marketing pieces since about 2016 or so. Another challenge here was co-branding — ensuring both the Kasasa brand and the brand of the financial institution came through.

One of my first loves is music — so it wasn't hard for me to say "yes" when friends in both Austin and Los Angeles asked me to write press materials for their bands. As I did my homework, I felt that the band bios I read could have been better — meaning that they could have a little more flavor and art to them (after all, we wanted people to read them — hopefully resulting in better opportunities for the band). So I took the angle of a journalist doing a kind of Rolling Stone profile for the bands I worked with. In each case, the stakeholders were very pleased with what I delivered.
